Beaver Lodge Lands
If you are looking for a fantastic network of mountain bike trails located in the middle of Campbell River, just minutes from the downtown. This amazing trail network has over 20 km of trails with many options for beginner and intermediate riders. The main trails are Rail Trail and Airport Main which run from the north end of the park to the south end and serve as the main connector trails. For riders looking for a challenge, there are plenty of singletrack trails running east and west of Airport Main and Rail Trail. All main trails are well marked with trail names, making the area easy to navigate.
The main parking for the Beaver Lodge Lands is at the end of Trask road. Most of the trails in the area remain snow-free year-round, allowing you to enjoy this great network of trails year-round, please be aware these trails are all multi-use; please give way to dog walkers and joggers.
Greenways Loop
While you can enjoy the Loop in both directions, the FROG signs guide you to our Forest, River, Ocean, and Greenways in a counterclockwise direction at this time. There are many access points (including the bottom of ERT, multiple places along the Seawalk, and the corner of Jubilee and Dogwood) but we recommend starting the Loop at the Discovery Pier, “Kilometre 0”. Head north toward the city centre and follow the scenic path along the water, meandering behind the restaurants and buildings and past the Quadra Island Ferry Terminal as you make your way to the Tyee Spit. With the ocean on one side and the Campbell River estuary on the other, this beautiful piece of land is the perfect place to birdwatch, let the kids play at the playground, and/or relax on the beach. As you continue, you’ll head past Home Depot to Campbellton and connect on the ERT, a designated trail that will eventually lead you to the Beaver Lodge Lands, a forest in the middle of our city. When you emerge from Beaver Lodge Lands, relaxed and refreshed, you’ll connect onto the paved path paralleling Dogwood, making your way to the Jubilee Connector, a 2 km trail beside the Jubilee Parkway. Follow the signs through Little America and Maryland, enjoying the residential vibe, before connecting the Rotary Seawalk at the bottom of Maryland. The Seawalk, a paved path along the ocean, takes you through Willow Point, around the roundabout, past our famous Big Rock, and in front of the museum as you make your way back to the Discovery Pier.
The Loop’s vision, design, construction, and maintenance include time, money, and resources from countless volunteers and organizations. Its completion in 2020 symbolizes an abundance of our community connections. Almost every Campbell River resident lives within 5 km of The Loop!
Snowden Demonstration Forest
Many of Campbell River’s trails are located in the Snowden Demonstration Forest, a working forest northwest of town featuring approximately 100 km of treed single-track trails ranging from green to black. This trail network is ideal for a beginner/intermediate hour-long ride or epic all-day adventure for the expert rider. Not only will you experience an endless world-class single track, but Snowden also offers up spectacular scenery. There are many access points to Snowden, but the most central is the Lost Lake parking lot along Loveland Bay Road. This starting point will give you great access to a large variety of ride loops.
If you’re looking for a longer ride with more variety then you can access the Snowden trails straight from town by riding up through the Pump House network. To find the trailhead drive west on Hwy 28 towards Elk Falls Provincial Park. Turn right on Duncan Bay Main FSR and drive across the bridge and up the hill till you see the blue water tower, there you will find parking. The trailhead is located past the yellow gate behind the water tower.
Rotary Seawalk
The Rotary Beach Seawalk is a 6 kilometre (3.4 mile) paved walkway that follows the pebbled and sandy shores of the Discovery Passage. The popular activity trail is located on the west coast of Vancouver Island, BC, Canada near the community of Campbell River.
The Seawalk runs parallel to Highway #19A. Both the highway and the walkway provide fantastic marine views. On any given day one can observe the comings and goings of sailboats, fishing vessels, kayakers, cargo ships and cruise liners.
There are picnic tables, viewing benches, grass lawns and sandy beaches located along the walkway making viewing comfortable. Take the time to explore the route and one will come across chainsaw art wood carvings, monuments and interpretive signs. Many of the wood carvings are located in the Rotary Beach Park which connects to the walkway.
The walkway is very popular activity route. Some use the walkway for exercise or as a transportation route while others use the walkway for relaxation and sightseeing. Some of the activities enjoyed on the walkway include dog walking, hiking, jogging, roller bladding and biking. The well maintained Seawalk is also baby stroller and wheelchair friendly.
The shoreline following the walkway is lined with a mish-mash of pebbled beaches and sandy beaches. Here and there, scattered everywhere, are large piles of driftwood thrown ashore from the heavy storms. The marine environment and the unobstructed views make an ideal setting for birdwatching. Bald Eagles and other seabirds live in the area and often make an appearance.
